August 1927 - September 2025

With our thanks to Chris Dallison

Ian was born on 12 August 1927 and attended PGS between 1938-45, including being evacuated to Bournemouth from 1941 to December 1944. He served in the army after the war in the Royal Engineers, rising to Captain before leaving to work for what became British Steel. He worked as manager for inland transport, initially in Wales and subsequently at their head office in London until retirement. He received an OBE in 1985 in recognition of his role as President for two years of the Freight Transport Association. Following the passing of his wife, Julie, in 1989 he spent a long and happy retirement in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight where he was able to indulge in his passion for sailing. He is survived by three children.
