Meet the new Head, Andrew Fisher

Hello. I am excited to be, briefly, introducing myself to you as the Head of PGS. As many of you will know I have only been in post a matter of weeks, but I can say with absolute honesty that these weeks have been inspirational, funny and moving. The students and staff have welcomed me at every turn and opportunity; it feels like a genuine welcome to an extraordinary place.  

I am here as the culmination of my career which started in 1986, 40 years inspired by great teachers, great students and very different schools. My teaching career has involved many, many roles. I have been a Head of Drama and English, a Boarding housemaster of a girls' boarding house, a Deputy Head, I have worked in Australian outdoor educational camps and finally I have enjoyed 17 years as Head prior to my start at PGS. From this I hope you can see that I love schools and teaching and working with young people, I am also pretty unshakeable when it comes to school cultures, leadership and steering them through challenging times.

Lastly, I have known PGS at a distance for 20+ years, being a friend with Tim Hands and James Priory and briefly crossing over with Anne Cotton at conferences and events. I believe passionately that this is a great school and my role is to keep it great, build its confidence and ensure that it flourishes despite the recent challenges being faced by Independent schools all over the country. I believe I can do this, with the help of the Board, the hard work of the staff, the commitment of the parent body and importantly the enthusiasm and support of the OP community who seem to be fully engaged in seeing the school thrive for the benefit of future generations.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout my time at PGS.
