With under 2 weeks to go until Giving Day, we wanted to share some FAQs:
What is Giving Day?
PGS Giving Day is 36 hours in which the school community comes together to raise as much money as possible for transformational bursaries at PGS, enabling talented local people from Portsmouth to attend PGS regardless of their family's financial circumstance. What's more, all gifts will be match funded by a very generous OP donor, meaning every gift will be worth double! So support this Giving Day really will go further than ever.
Why should I donate as an OP?
Many of our OPs received some form of financial support during their time at PGS and lots of OPs credit some part of their success to their education at PGS, understanding just how many doors it opened for them. If you feel the same, PGS Giving Day is an opportunity for you to allow another deserving young person to attend PGS, an education with limitless opportunities.
Why are bursaries important?
Bursaries enrich the school culturally and academically and place PGS in the true heart of the city, connecting with local families and pupils. PGS are working towards becoming a needs blind school, allowing any deserving young person to attend regardless of school fees.
Finally, hear what Head of PGS, David Wickes thinks about Giving Day 2023:
When I joined The Portsmouth Grammar School last September, I was immediately struck by the warmth and generosity of the whole school community: alumni, parents, staff, pupils and donors. And that is why I am so excited and optimistic about this year's Giving Day - it's a chance for everyone to come together, for one cause, to truly make a difference for bright and promising children in Portsmouth and the surrounding area.
We are incredibly proud to say that 1 in 5 pupils receive financial assistance at PGS and we look forward to this improving each year, aligning with our vision to be a needs blind school. It is becoming clearer to me every day just how much richer we are as a school community because of the contribution that our wonderful bursary recipients make, none of which would be possible without the generous support of people like you - so thank you. It means the world to us.
