Message from the OP Club Committee:
Over the past few years, the School’s Development Office has done an excellent job of organising events involving past pupils and their families, to a point where The Old Portmuthian Club itself has become almost entirely inactive. At a recent Old Portmuthian Club Committee meeting, it was agreed that the time had come for us to consider closing down the Club’s activities altogether and transferring what funds it has to the School.
Three options of what to do with the remaining funds (circa £20,000) were considered, being:
- Putting it towards an OP Club bursary
- Putting it in a “top up” fund for trips, equipment and other activities for bursary recipients
- Funding the engagements of OPs through the Development Office
Of these, the third, funding the engagements of OPs through the Development Office, was agreed to be the most appropriate as it had the widest impact.
The Club’s rule 12 covers its dissolution and states:
If a resolution for the dissolution of the Club is passed by the majority of members present at a General Meeting and confirmed by a resolution passed by a majority of two thirds of the members voting at a Special General Meeting held not less than one month later, the Committee must arrange for the discharge of all liabilities and then deal with the assets of the Club as directed by the Resolution, or if there is no Direction, as they decide.
As such, a Special General Meeting of The Old Portmuthian Club has been called for 10am on Monday 30th March 2026 online. Please register here to receive the meeting link if you’d like to attend. You'll be sent the link on 23rd March.
